Shrineto (“we”) operates the shrine and deity directory at shrineto.com. This policy explains what the service does and does not collect. It applies to everyone who uses the site.
Shrineto has no user accounts. We never ask for your name, email address, phone number, or any other contact detail, and there is no way to give them to us.
Your saved shrines and deities, your chosen language, and the location you set are stored in your browser’s local storage, on your device only. They are never sent to us or stored on our servers. Clearing your browser data deletes them permanently, and we cannot recover them.
If you use “use my location”, your browser asks your permission first and the coordinates are used to find nearby shrines and to display distances. We do not store them; they are kept on your device and sent with a request only to answer that request.
When you describe what you are seeking, the text is sent to our servers and to our language-model provider (Anthropic) to interpret it and to write the explanation you see.
We store a one-way cryptographic hash of your search text, never the text itself, so that a repeated search can be answered from our cache without asking the model again. A hash cannot be reversed into the original words.
We also store the generated interpretation — the categories, benefits, and explanatory text the model produced — for up to 90 days, keyed by that hash, after which it is deleted.
Nothing we store is linked to you: no account, no IP address, no session identifier, and no advertising or tracking identifier is recorded alongside it.
Anthropic processes your search text in order to return a result. See Anthropic’s privacy policy for how they handle it.
Please do not type names, addresses, or other details that identify you or anyone else. Shrineto does not need them, and describing your situation in general terms works just as well.
Our web server keeps standard access logs (requested path, timestamp, browser user-agent, and IP address) for operational and abuse-prevention purposes. These logs record the path only, not the parameters attached to it, so neither your search text nor your location appears in them. If a request fails, the server’s error log may record the full address of that one request, which can include an address you typed. Logs are retained for a short operational period and then discarded.
We use Cloudflare Turnstile to distinguish people from automated scripts on the search endpoint. Turnstile is designed to work without tracking you across sites and sets no advertising cookies.
Cloudflare — content delivery, TLS, and bot protection.
Anthropic — interprets your search text and generates explanations.
Google Maps Platform — converts an address you enter into coordinates.
OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — the same, as a fallback.
Google Places — photographs of shrines and temples.
Railway — hosting.
Each receives only what it needs to perform that function.
Shrineto sets no advertising or analytics cookies. Cloudflare may set cookies strictly necessary for security and bot protection.
The service is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect any information from them.
Because we hold no information that identifies you, we cannot look up, export, correct, or delete “your” data — there is nothing linked to you to act on. Data held on your device is under your control and is removed by clearing your browser data.
Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date.
