Ukanomitama (Shirahige Daimyojin)

Ukanomitama is a kami of grain, food, and agricultural abundance mentioned in early Japanese texts such as the Kojiki, often venerated at Inari shrines and sometimes syncretized with Inari Okami. In some local traditions the deity has been enshrined under the name Shirahige Daimyojin, linking this figure to community shrines associated with protection and sustenance. Over time, due to the deity's association with rice and material abundance, some businesses and merchants have looked to Ukanomitama as a symbol connected to prosperity, though this connection reflects folk belief and devotional practice rather than a documented historical mandate.
