Tagitsu-hime-no-mikoto is one of the three Munakata goddesses, born from Amaterasu's purification ritual as described in early Japanese chronicles such as the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki. Alongside her sisters Tagorihime and Ichikishimahime, she is venerated at the Munakata Taisha shrines and is traditionally associated with the sea, safe passage across water, and the protection of sailors and fishing communities. Shrines dedicated to her and her sister deities have long been linked to maritime travel and coastal life in Japanese religious tradition.
