Otohime is a princess of the sea deity Watatsumi in Japanese mythology, best known from the tale of Urashima Tarō, in which she dwells in the undersea palace Ryūgū-jō and weds the fisherman who visits there. As a daughter of the dragon-god of the sea, she is associated with the ocean's depths and with the union between the human and marine realms depicted in that legend. Later folk retellings and popular culture have linked her name with themes of love and romantic devotion, though this association reflects narrative tradition rather than a formally defined cultic role.
