Namikiri Fudo Myoo

Namikiri Fudo Myoo, meaning "Wave-Cutting Fudo," is a manifestation of Fudo Myoo, the immovable wisdom king of Japanese Buddhism, venerated especially by sailors, fishermen, and coastal communities. Tradition holds that this form of Fudo calmed turbulent seas and protected vessels from storms, and shrines or temples bearing this name are often found near harbors and fishing villages. As with other manifestations of Fudo Myoo, imagery typically depicts a fierce, resolute figure wielding a sword and rope amid flames, symbolizing the cutting away of danger and delusion alike.
