Izanagi-no-Okami is a primordial creator deity in Shinto mythology, who together with Izanami is credited in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki with the creation of the Japanese islands and many other kami. Following his journey to the underworld and subsequent purification ritual, he is associated with the origins of misogi, the practice of ritual cleansing, which has led to his veneration in connection with health and healing. He is enshrined at various sites across Japan, including Izanagi Shrine on Awaji Island, where he continues to be honored as an ancestral and generative kami.
