Marishiten

Marishiten (摩利支天) is a deva of Buddhist origin, personifying light and mirage, who was adopted into Japanese esoteric Buddhism and revered especially by the warrior class as a protector in battle. Often depicted riding a boar and associated with the sun's radiance, this deity was invoked for concealment from enemies and for courage and swiftness in combat. In later tradition, Marishiten's association with victory has extended informally to contexts such as sports and competition, though this reflects popular devotion rather than a claim of guaranteed outcome.
