Ojin Tenno (Emperor Ojin)

Ojin Tenno, traditionally counted as the fifteenth Emperor of Japan, is a legendary sovereign whose reign is recorded in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, though historians debate the historicity of the early imperial line. After his death he came to be venerated as Hachiman, a deity widely enshrined across Japan and closely associated with warriors, protection, and the wellbeing of communities engaged in maritime trade and fishing. Many shrines dedicated to him are found in coastal and port areas, reflecting local traditions that link his worship to prosperity in commerce and safety at sea, though such associations rest on cult tradition rather than the historical record of his reign.
