Amenooshihomimi-no-Mikoto is a deity from Japanese mythology, described in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki as the son of Amaterasu, born during the divination contest between the sun goddess and her brother Susanoo. As the father of Ninigi-no-Mikoto, he holds an important place in the lineage connecting the heavenly kami to the imperial line and the descent to earth. In later tradition and at certain shrines, he has come to be honored in association with victory and success in sports and competition, reflecting the resolve and strength attributed to him in the mythic contest of his birth.
