大山咋神
Oyamakui-no-Kami is a Shinto deity associated with mountains, particularly Mount Hiei and the Matsuo area near Kyoto, and is enshrined at Hiyoshi Taisha as a guardian of that sacred mountain. The name is often interpreted as relating to a stake or post driven into a mountain, linking the deity to the mountain's foundation and to the surrounding land. Through this connection to mountains and their surrounding waters and soil, the deity has traditionally been linked to agriculture and the fertility of the land, though such associations reflect folk tradition rather than fixed doctrine.
