Ame-no-Tajikarao-no-mikoto is a deity in Japanese mythology known for his great physical strength, most famously credited in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki with pulling open the rock cave door to draw out the sun goddess Amaterasu, restoring light to the world. Because of this feat, he has traditionally been venerated as a kami of strength and power, and is enshrined at various shrines including Toyokawa and Ana Hachimangu. In more recent times, some devotees have looked to him in connection with physical prowess, athletic endeavor, and contests of strength, reflecting his mythic association with mighty deeds.
