Takaokami no Kami is a Shinto deity associated with rain, snow, and water, particularly the waters found in mountainous regions and valleys. According to the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, this deity emerged in connection with the myth of Izanagi slaying the fire god Kagutsuchi. Takaokami no Kami is venerated at various shrines across Japan, including Kifune Shrine in Kyoto, where devotion has traditionally centered on prayers for rainfall and protection from drought.
