Ame-no-Yagokoro-Omoikane-no-mikoto is a deity from Japanese mythology, appearing in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki as the god of wisdom, deliberation, and intellect. He is depicted as an adviser among the heavenly deities, credited with devising the plan that lured the sun goddess Amaterasu out of hiding. Because of this association with careful thought and counsel, he has come to be venerated at various shrines in connection with wisdom, learning, and academic pursuits.
