Izanami-no-mikoto

Izanami-no-mikoto is a primordial creator deity in Japanese mythology, who together with her partner Izanagi-no-mikoto gave birth to the islands of Japan and many of the kami associated with natural phenomena. Following the death of Izanami during the birth of the fire god, she descended to Yomi, the land of the dead, becoming associated in tradition with death, the underworld, and the cycles of nature. She is venerated at various shrines, particularly in connection with themes of creation, fertility, and the origins of the natural world, though accounts of her role and significance vary across regional traditions and texts such as the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki.
