Tagitsuhime-no-mikoto is one of the three Munakata goddesses (Munakata Sanjojin) born from Amaterasu's necklace beads during her covenant with Susanoo, as recounted in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki. She is traditionally venerated at the Munakata Taisha shrine complex in Fukuoka alongside her sisters Tagorihime and Ichikishimahime, with the trio historically associated with safe sea passage and maritime trade routes. Through this connection to trade and travel, she has come to be regarded by some as a guardian deity linked to prosperity, though her core mythological identity centers on the sea and its crossings.
