Tosho Daigongen is the posthumous deified name of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the samurai leader who unified Japan and founded the Tokugawa shogunate, enshrined most notably at Nikko Toshogu after his death in 1616. He was venerated as a protective deity of the realm and the shogunal line, embodying strength, strategic mastery, and enduring authority won through hard-fought struggle. In later tradition his association with triumph over rivals and perseverance through conflict has led some to invoke him in connection with victory and competitive endeavor, though such benefits are not part of any formally documented doctrine.
