市杵島姫命
Ichikishimahime-no-mikoto is one of the three Munakata goddesses born from the purification ritual between Amaterasu and Susanoo, as recorded in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, and she is closely associated with the sea, safe passage, and the sacred island of Okinoshima. Through syncretism with the Buddhist deity Benzaiten, she came to be enshrined widely as a deity linked to water, purification, and fortune, with Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima being among her most renowned sites of worship. Devotees have traditionally sought her favor in matters of safe travel by sea and prosperity, though such associations reflect longstanding devotional tradition rather than verified guarantees.
