Daikokuten is one of the Seven Lucky Gods of Japan and is often syncretized with Onamuchi-no-mikoto (Okuninushi), a kami associated with nation-building, agriculture, and marriage in Shinto tradition. Depicted as a stout, smiling figure carrying a mallet and a sack of treasures while standing on rice bales, he is widely venerated as a bringer of wealth and abundance. Some devotional traditions and folk beliefs also connect him to matchmaking and harmonious relationships, though this association is less central than his role as a deity of prosperity.
