Okuninushi no Kami is a major deity in Japanese mythology, recorded in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki as the god who built and ruled the land of Izumo before ceding it to the heavenly deities, and he is enshrined at Izumo Taisha as a kami of nation-building, agriculture, and medicine. Through longstanding syncretic association with the Buddhist-derived figure Daikokuten, he came to be linked with wealth, abundance, and good fortune in popular devotion. Okuninushi is also noted in myth for his role in matchmaking and relationships, making him venerated in multiple, interconnected capacities.
