Toyotamahime no Mikoto

Toyotamahime no Mikoto is a deity from Japanese mythology, recorded in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki as a daughter of the sea god Ōwatatsumi. She married the hunter-god Hoori and, according to legend, transformed into a dragon or sea creature while giving birth to their son on the shore, an episode tied to her association with childbirth and the sea. She is venerated at shrines such as Ōtama Shrine as a deity connected to safe childbirth, fertility, and the fortunes of fishing and maritime life, though such connections rest on tradition rather than verified efficacy.
