Enmei Kannon, whose name means "Life-Prolonging Kannon," is one of the many manifestations of Kannon (Avalokiteshvara), the bodhisattva of compassion venerated widely across Japan. This form is traditionally associated with the granting of long life and protection, and has also been linked in folk devotion to safe childbirth and fertility. As with other Kannon forms, veneration typically involves prayer, offerings, and visits to temples where images of this manifestation are enshrined.
