Ojin Tenno (Hachiman)

Ojin Tenno, traditionally counted as the fifteenth Emperor of Japan, was posthumously deified and venerated as Hachiman, a syncretic kami who came to be regarded as a protector of the nation and a patron of warriors. Over centuries Hachiman worship spread widely through shrines such as Usa Jingu and Iwashimizu Hachimangu, and the deity became associated with martial prowess, protection, and the wellbeing of communities under the samurai class's patronage.
